Bellshill Central Church

This is where I am organist and choirmaster.  We are a warm and welcoming church located at 346 Main Street, Bellshill.  Our church services are held at 10:45am each Sunday Mornings and all will be made very welcome.

The church building was first Free Church in the area, built in 1876.

However, services began in Bellshill in September 1873 and were for a time held in Mossend school. The charge was sanctioned in 1874. The Church, hall, and manse were erected in 1875/76.

The rapid growth of the population, employed in coal mines and iron works, favoured the development of the congregation.

Initial Membership figures were 1875, 143;  1900, 477.

The first Minister; William Macdonald, 1874

The building has been called; Bellshill Free Church, then Bellshill Macdonald Memorial United Free.  In 1929 at the Union of the churches it adopted the name Macdonald Memorial Church of Scotland and became a parish church in its own right.

In 2014 Macdonald Memorial was united with Orbiston Parish Church and the United congregation uses the 1876 Main Street building.
